[Fixed] How to Unlock a Disabled iPhone without iTunes - 5 Methods

If you have lost or forgotten your iPhone passcode and you entered the wrong passcode too many times, your iPhone can be disabled. When this happens, Apple will recommend that you restore the device in iTunes to unlock it.  But you may not be able to use iTunes if you don’t have a trusted computer.

If this is the case, you will find the solutions to unlock a disabled iPhone without iTunes.

Way 1. Try DFU Mode First

If you are unable to unlock disabled iPhone with iTunes for one reason or another, we recommend trying DFU mode first. DFU Mode is the go-to solution when recovery mode will not work and it often works. Follow these simple steps to put your device in DFU Mode:

Step 1: Connect the iPhone to computer.

Step 2: Put your iPhone in DFU mode, here’s how to do that for the various model:

iPhone 8 or Later:

  • Press the Volume up button, then press the Volume down button. Press and hold the Side button. Don’t release the Side button until the screen turns black.

  • While still holding the Side button, press and hold the Volume button for about 5 seconds.

  • Let go of the Side button but continue to hold the Volume Down button for 10 seconds.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus:

  • Press and hold both the Side and the Volume Down button for at least 10 seconds.

  • Let go of the Side button, but continue to hold the Volume Down button for 5 additional seconds.

iPhone 6 or Earlier:

  • Press the Home and Power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds.

  • Let go of the Power button, but keep holding the Home button for 5 additional seconds.

Step 3: Then, open iTunes and you should see the message saying, “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode…”. Click “OK”.

You can also fix disabled iPhone without iTunes through iCloud. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: On any browser, go to and sign in with your Apple ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Find iPhone”.

Step 3: Click on “All Devices” at the top of the next window and then select the disabled iPhone from the drop-down list.

Step 4: You should see three options. Select “Erase iPhone” and the device will be erased remotely. This will unlock the device and you can then restore it from an iCloud backup.

  • It is also fully compatible with the latest version of iOS 14.

The solutions above can all come in handy when your iPhone is disabled. The method you choose to use will depend on your particular situation. For example, you may find the iCloud method useful if you have enabled Find my iPhone on the device or you may use LazePaw if DFU mode and iCloud are not viable options for you. Choose a solution that best suits your needs and then follow the steps listed above to fix the device.
